New Year, New Recordings

And there we have it! The first week of the new lap is in the books, and boy howdy, did we ever start this one off the right way. Let me run you through it.

The new year started at about 6am which is definitely much earlier than most have in the last few decades or so.  I reckon it helps that last year ended around 11 p.m. for me this time. Breaking new ground right up to the end of the year!

From 6 a.m. onwards, it’s been go, go, go. What I managed to do at the start of the year was snag some time in the studio with Jeff Zipp at Light Machine Records. It all came together real fast: I messaged him one day, put together my demo the next, and was in the studio the day after that. Oh yeah, I brought my 6 a.m. Club Member’s card with me to the recording sessions—we started real early both days!

Day 1 was all about the bed tracks. I got to work with Flavio Cirillo on drums for the first time, and we had a blast! He is such a pro (e.g., even though I rolled in at 8 a.m., he had already been there with Jeff, setting up the drums since 7 a.m.).

That’s also Jeff being there even earlier to get things rolling. He’s also a total pro. For instance, after I left at the end of the day, he stuck around and laid down a great guitar part.

Of course, I also got to work with my new bass, Butter Cream :). We had a great time too.

Day 2 somehow also started at 8 a.m., and what a heck of a day it was. I’ve worked with Jeff on a lot of projects, and I gotta say, Day 2 is always my favorite. This Day 2 did not disappoint.

Sometimes more really does end up being more!

On top of drums, bass, and guitar, we added organs, a bunch more guitars, a banjo, several kinds of keys, and, of course, the vocals. And that’s only the stuff I can remember right now.

 Fooph!

When it was all said and done, I think we got one heck of a track here.

And that’s it for now! I’ll be back next time with more details to answer the questions you no doubt will have.

The End.

Ross
